Creating and growing a green, low-carbon business”: Mission for Energy Transition visits Monaco Boost

At the initiative of Stéphan Bruno, Director of the Business Development Agency, the Mission for Energy Transition spoke to several start-ups at Monaco Boost on Wednesday 29 June.

The aim was to explain how to create a responsible business, an approach that is in line with the fight against climate disruption.

Michel Bouhnik, Co-founder of MV Digital Consulting, Pierre-Alec Bordero for Alpha Solutions, Ludwig Roger, Director of Information Systems for Pineappli, and the Monaco Boost team all took part in the event.

Our colleague Isabelle Curau-Bloch led the meeting on the theme of the energy transition as a source of opportunity for businesses.

What impact is this transition having on businesses, especially in Monaco?

This is a broad and multisectoral issue, but the starting point is always the same: it all begins with a carbon assessment, to enable the business to accurately measure its greenhouse gas emissions.

On this note, it is worth remembering that, since May 2021, the Mission for Energy Transition has offered its business signatories low-carbon support plans. https://energy-transition.gouv.mc/Energy-Transition/News/Together-towards-a-low-carbon-economy-work-gets-underway . After a carbon assessment has been conducted, the low-carbon strategy involves establishing an emissions reduction target, with the deadline set by the business, and creating an action plan to achieve it.

The discussion then focused on the expectations and obstacles encountered, and on key issues relating to the eco-friendly use of digital technology and degrowth, which is often wrongly associated with the energy transition.

All aspects were covered – team involvement, efficiency, innovation, discussions with suppliers, responsible procurement policies, the “green office”, lifecycles and the circular economy, and more. The (rapid) changes to regulations were also touched on. These should encourage all businesses to quickly make the transition in order to increase their competitiveness.

Isabelle concluded her presentation by highlighting the many investment funds focused on financing businesses in the circular economy. She also noted that numerous Monegasque companies – EatIN, Coty Lancaster and others – had already committed to this path and had benefited from it immediately.
