Positive review for Klaxit car sharing service on its 1st anniversary!

To coincide with European Mobility Week, which began on Thursday 16 September, an update on car sharing was organised with the various stakeholders, including government departments and partner companies. Launched in September 2020, the Klaxit car sharing app was celebrating its first anniversary in the Principality. 

Klaxit: a practical response to a major challenge in the Principality 

Every day, 50,000 French and Italian employees travel to the Principality, most of them by car, with an average occupancy rate of 1.1 people per vehicle. The Government is determined to reduce current vehicle traffic by 20% by 2030, and so the Principality has embarked on an innovative and ambitious policy to expand the use of car sharing by commuters.

In September 2020, the Prince’s Government launched a new car sharing solution using the Klaxit app (www.klaxit.com ). Klaxit is the leading car sharing app for short journeys in France. In conjunction with the selection of this app, a close partnership was forged with 27 businesses in the Principality, all signatories of the National Pact and representing a potential pool of 13,000 employees. Forty workshops were held to inform staff at partner companies about the initiative and to encourage maximum adoption of this new tool. 

To promote its use, the Government is subsidising all car share journeys organised via Klaxit which originate from or end in the Principality. Specifically, passengers will travel for free, while drivers will receive a payment of between €1.50 and €3.00 for each passenger – this adds up to potential extra income of €160 per month for a driver who carries two passengers for 20 working days for a distance of 20 kilometres. 

Positive review and encouraging prospects 

The figures speak for themselves: having now been available and in use for a year, Klaxit boasts: 

• more than 1,400 car sharers
• 11,285 journeys completed
• nearly 230,000 kilometres driven 
• a reduction of 25.5 tonnes of CO2!

The positive outcome is confirmed by partner companies such as Carrefour Monaco: “We have had to adapt to different waves of the COVID epidemic and this flexible mobility solution has prompted our employees to use the app (1 in 3 staff are users). We are going to continue along this path; it’s vital to consolidate what has been achieved,” says Rémi Feipeler, Manager of Carrefour Monaco.

It’s worth noting that 80% of journeys are between Menton, Monaco and Nice Ouest. The adoption rate is particularly high among people who do not live along the coast near an SNCF railway line, and among those who work unsociable hours and cannot take advantage of the extensive public transport services.

Car sharing is also a practical and efficient option when there is disruption to public transport services. A double benefit for commuters! With the SNCF’s South Region currently experiencing disruption due to work that will continue until next April, Klaxit is the obvious solution for workers who had perhaps not considered it previously.
