Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, officially unveiled the solar panel installation at the Monte-Carlo Bay on Tuesday 9 April. The ceremony was attended by the hotel’s director, Frédéric Darnet, and Thomas Battaglione, Chief Executive Officer of SMEG.

After congratulating the Société des Bains de Mer, the Monte-Carlo Bay and SMEG on their productive partnership which made it possible to install these solar panels, the Minister said: “I urge private owners to take up SBM’s initiative and contribute, in turn, to the growth of solar power in our country.”

This 1,000 m2 photovoltaic installation is now the largest of its kind in the Principality. It will be capable of producing locally the equivalent of the energy consumed annually by around 30 homes, or approximately 160 MWh for a capacity of 154 kWp. The winner of a “positive energy” e+ Award in 2017, the Monte-Carlo Bay is reaffirming its environmental ambition through this installation jointly developed with SMEG.

The Monte-Carlo Bay solar power plant, which is funded, operated and implemented by SMEG, receives a Government grant allocated for the installation of photovoltaic panels (https://energy-transition.gouv.mc/Energy-Transition/Renewable-energy-in-Monaco ).

The development of solar energy in the Principality is part of a strong approach by the Prince’s Government, whose aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the share of renewable energy.

More information will follow on Monaco Info and social media this evening.
