2023 : The energy transition: key figures

NL12.1. CONFERENCE ANNUELLE MTE AU YCM

The Mission for Energy Transition’s annual conference, “A Collective Commitment: Review and Prospects”, was held on Tuesday 24 January at the Yacht Club de Monaco. It was attended by H.E. the Minister of State, Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, Yvette Lambin-Berti, Secretary of State, and Guillaume Rose, representing the President of the National Council.

 

 The event was an opportunity for the Mission for Energy Transition to highlight a few key figures relating to our energy transition:

 

National Green Fund

  • Since 2017, €140 million has been invested in energy efficiency and independence, reducing our economy’s sensitivity to fossil fuel prices;
  • Ocean thermal energy loops: €58 million invested and nearly 50 buildings NO LONGER dependent on fossil fuels thanks to cutting-edge Monegasque technology;
  • Subsidies allocated for the purchase of clean-energy vehicles between 2018 and 2022 inclusive: €19.6 million (including €7.5 million in 2022).

 

Transport

  • Accounted for 39% of our emissions in 2020;
  • Target: to reduce vehicle traffic in Monaco by 20% by 2030;
  • Monaco Railway Station: 3rd place in the region, behind Marseille and Nice, and nearly €22 million invested in the TER service over the last three years;
  • Moving walkways, public lifts, escalators... nearly 140 such links make everyday life easier;
  • Klaxit: nearly 13,000 car sharing journeys in November 2022;
  • MonaBike: 46 stations – including one powered by solar energy – and 390 bikes;
  • By the end of 2022, nearly 14% of vehicles were clean-energy powered;
  • Monaco On: 120,000 charges in 2021 (equivalent to range of 1.3 million kilometres). Nearly 400 charging points in car parks and on the streets;
  • All buses will be electric by 2025.

 

Waste

  • Accounted for 26% of our emissions in 2020;
  • Zero single-use plastic waste by 2030;
  • MaConsigne: 37 partner sales outlets already;
  • More than 50 water fountains available throughout the country for refilling water bottles;
  • More than 100 Responsible Traders and Restaurants;

Building energy use

  • Accounted for 33% of our greenhouse gas emissions in 2020;
  • New ocean thermal energy loops: 7% reduction in greenhouse gases within next 3 years;
  • 100 buildings equipped with Smart+ meters;
  • 23 public and private buildings committed to BD2M (Sustainable Mediterranean Buildings Monaco) initiative in 2022;
  • 80% of public buildings insulated and 97% equipped with LED lighting; 
  • Have reduced CO2 emissions by 36% since 1990 and by 16.3% since 2016;
  • Public solar energy generation: more than 5,000 m2; +680% in 5 years.
