Prince Albert of Monaco outlined the educational initiative, which will see the creation of a new platform for teaching on subjects including maritime law, the geopolitics of seas and oceans, and the environment and related issues.

The President of the Regional Council, who attaches great importance to the quality of relations between his region and Monaco, was keen to affirm the region’s clear commitment:

“If there is one Mediterranean state that is ahead in the maritime field, it is the Principality of Monaco.  For more than a century, it has been equipping itself with infrastructure, tools and major institutions.

At the launch of Mediterranean of the Future, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco introduced me to the project to create a Sea Academy, a real educational institution focusing on three clear priorities: maritime law, international relations on issues related to the oceans and the sea, and major environmental themes.

As the pilot region for ecological planning in France, committed to a 100% climate-focused approach that is unique in Europe, I am keen for the region to support this absolutely essential initiative.

I will therefore be present in Monaco next March, during Oceans Week, to outline the region’s commitment alongside the Principality,” said Renaud MUSELIER, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region and Vice-President of the French Regions, after the meeting.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco thanked the President of the Regional Council, Renaud Muselier, for inviting him to attend Act V of the Mediterranean of the Future event, and looked forward to welcoming him to Monaco in March, in order to determine together what role the Southern Region wishes to play in this educational initiative.

“I believe the Sea Academy is fully in line with the theme of the ‘Mediterranean of the Future’. I am delighted by the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region’s support for this project, the value of which must be viewed in light of the challenges that the Mediterranean, like all the other seas and oceans, will have to face in the future,” said His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.
