National Energy Transition Pact: significant new signatures

signataires S2 2020

Thirty organisations, representing more than a quarter of Monaco’s employees, have now signed up to the National Energy Transition Pact, which was created in January 2018.

The Mission for Energy Transition is delighted to report that the Monegasque community has really stepped up in terms of reflecting on and making a personal commitment to achieving a carbon-free Monaco.

Carrefour signs up and commits to responsible purchasing

At Carrefour, the recent arrival of new Director Rémi Feipeler has inspired a fresh approach to ethical and responsible purchasing, as well as many positive changes related to the energy transition.

Lots of actions have been taken at Carrefour Monaco. These include:

  • A new in-store refrigeration system, which is producing energy savings of 25%
  • Alternatives to single-use packaging (introduction of loose products and availability of sustainable, eco-friendly packaging)
  • A delivery service using an electric vehicle, which is provided by a supplier under the Carrefour logo
  • Plastic and cardboard recycling
  • The introduction of 100% LED lighting

CAM makes commitment to sustainable mobility official

On 16 September this year, following Public Transport Day, Roland de Rechniewski officially signed the National Energy Transition Pact. By signing the Pact, the Monegasque Bus Company (CAM) is committing to working towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the Principality.

CAM has already taken many actions to promote sustainable mobility. The key measures include:

  • The current and future roll-out of electric buses
  • The corresponding development of the bus fleet
  • The launch of the Sud Azur multimodal transport pass

New Minister of State stands with us

Minister of State H.E. Mr Pierre Dartout signed the National Energy Transition Pact on Tuesday 29 September. The signing ceremony was attended by Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, and Annabelle Jaeger-Seydoux, Director of the Mission for Energy Transition.

Collecting this signature was a source of pride and honour for the entire Mission for Energy Transition team.

Police Department working (notably) to combat environmental anti-social behaviour

Police Commissioner Richard Marangoni signed the National Energy Transition Pact on 19 October, confirming that ‘Police Department staff have been working for several years to apply the recommendations advocated in order to contribute to sustainable development.’

The actions taken include the creation of the Quality of Life Preservation Division, whose officers are equipped with electric bikes, and the crackdown since June 2020 on antisocial behaviour involving the discarding of masks and gloves on public streets.

The Urban Policing Division, the Marine and Airport Police Division and the Quality of Life Preservation Division are routinely recording offences against those discarding masks, gloves and other rubbish, with fines that can reach up to €300.

Involving nearly 600 civil servants and government officials, the Police Department’s commitment is significant. In addition, the Department is also committing to hosting awareness workshops led by the Mission for Energy Transition.

Dozens of new signatories continue to sign up to the National Pact. Keep up to date with our latest news...
