Spotlight on new National Pact signatories
In recent months, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming several new Pact signatories. We wanted to shine a spotlight on two of them: the Monaco Diocese and the new business incubator Monaco Boost. These are organisations which are very different in terms of what they do, but they share a similar commitment.
Principality’s Diocese signs National Pact
Numerous measures have been put in place within the Church in the Principality, which is keen to be a committed stakeholder in the energy transition.
In recent years – long before it signed the Pact – the Diocese has taken a variety of actions, including the introduction of electronic document management. In addition, the displays outside churches and chapels have been replaced with touchscreen terminals. The Diocese also took the initiative to stop distributing a paper magazine and switch to an electronic newsletter. And a final action which has helped to reduce the carbon footprint of many facilities is recycling. Churches in the Diocese now recycle around 90% of their waste.
As part of the economic recovery plan, two new support measures have been introduced to ensure Monaco continues its commitment on the path to decarbonisation. One of these measures involves a call for exemplary building renovation projects.
In another energy-focused initiative, photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof of St Nicolas Church, making the church 100% self-sufficient in electricity and the Principality’s first “green” church.
Monaco Boost, a committed incubator
In a space covering 1,200 square metres in the very heart of Fontvieille, Monaco Boost is providing extra momentum for business creation and development in Monaco. Intended to act as a springboard for new businesses and those which have been in operation for less than five years, it prioritises start-ups founded by Monegasque entrepreneurs.
In April, Monaco Boost became an official partner of the Mission for Energy Transition and demonstrated its commitment by signing the National Pact. In full alignment with this commitment, the incubator is making signature of the Pact a mandatory condition for its occupants from the moment they move in. A first for the Principality!
In parallel, Monaco Boost has already put in place a number of initiatives, such as the Mégot Box (Cigarette Butt Box) from SMA. This ashtray offers an eco-friendly solution to the problem of cigarette butts that are discarded in gutters and planters. The Mégot Box encourages visitors to dispose of their cigarette butts in a fun and original way by voting for barbajuans or pissaladière (two local delicacies), offering a local waste-to-energy solution.
We’d like to congratulate both of these organisations in the Principality, as well as all of the others who have signed the National Pact, who are showing us that the actions they have taken are bearing fruit.
They’ve signed the National Energy Transition Pact – have you?
