Energy conservation efforts to continue this summer

Energy conservation is a year-round effort. It does not end with the winter, but carries on into the summer season.

Efforts to encourage Monaco’s community to save energy, coupled with the mild winter weather, will certainly have helped to avoid problems with the power system. Nonetheless, with the summer now upon us, it is important to be aware of the need to use air-conditioning in a controlled way, particularly as it contributes to the ‘heat island’ effect.

By merely adjusting your air-conditioning system, you can save significant amounts of energy (and money!)

The National Energy Transition Pact invites you to take some simple energy efficiency measures:

  • Set the temperature to a minimum of 26°C.
  • To manage your AC system more efficiently, ventilate indoors when it is coolest, close windows at the hottest times of the day, and obviously keep windows shut while the AC is running.
  • Close your shutters and lower blinds to protect windows from direct sunlight.
  • Arrange for your AC system to be serviced before the warm weather arrives.
  • Switch off your system if you leave home for any length of time.

MyNexio (https://mynexio.smeg.mc/signin ) meters can also help you manage your electricity use, by identifying which uses consume the most power.

Finally, there are numerous grants available to help you make your home more energy-efficient. These include the “small equipment grant”, designed to help with the cost of installing a blind, window film, or ceiling-mounted fans (for more information: https://transition-energetique.gouv.mc/Moyens-d-action/Subventions ).

Because nothing works like collective action, let’s act together to optimise our energy use.
