As part of the Prince’s Government’s energy transition policy, the Public Buildings Maintenance Office is installing photovoltaic panels on the roof of Saint-Nicolas Church in Fontvieille.

The 72 panels that are being installed will generate 19 MWh of electricity, which will be fed directly into the Church’s electrical system.

This will make the Church fully self-sufficient in terms of its electricity needs. Surplus power will be fed into the Fontvieille Post Office’s electrical system. The installation will also reduce atmospheric CO2 emissions by 1.55 tonnes per year.

It is worth noting that Saint-Nicolas Church will be the first “green” church in the Principality, and the first site to be energy self-sufficient.

The next steps in the energy transition for the Public Buildings Maintenance Office in 2020 include installing photovoltaic panels at Ecole de Fontvieille primary school, the Villa Paloma museum, SMEAUX, Sacré-Cœur Church, the Children’s Home and Villa Florestine, the new premises of the Department of Employment.
