Renewable energy in Monaco
Renewable energy sources are sources of energy which are inexhaustible within a human timescale. Energy is derived from natural sources such as the sun, the wind, waterfalls, the sea, the heat of the Earth and plant growth.
Commonly known as ‘clean’ or ‘green’ energy sources, they produce very little in the way of waste or polluting emissions.
The best known renewable energy sources are solar and wind energy, but there are numerous others. For example, hydropower is the term used to describe energy which comes from water, including wave energy, tidal energy and energy from currents (hydrokinetic energy or hydroelectric dams). Biomass and geothermal energy are other examples.
The renewable energy sector is constantly evolving. It has been characterised by a high level of innovation in recent years.
In order to seize every possible technical opportunity, the MTE has been monitoring technological developments since its creation.
It is supported by the Capenergies competitiveness cluster and Accenture in order to establish the state of the art of the various technologies of interest and evaluate the proposed solutions.
A special watch is kept on hydrogen, in support of the work of the Monaco Hydrogen Working Group.
