"Mediterranean Sustainable Buildings of Monaco:"The Principality is Increasing its Sustainable Construction Ambitions

Launch of the BD2M approach© Michael Alesi/Government Communication Department

On Thursday 26 September, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister for Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, accompanied by Annabelle Jaeger-Seydoux, Director of the Mission for Energy Transition and the staff of the MTE and Envirobat BDM, launched a presentation morning on the new Mediterranean Sustainable Buildings of Monaco (BD2M) approach.

"The environmental and energy performance of buildings represents more than 30% of the Principality's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.  It is a priority area of the Government's policy in terms of energy transition and reducing our GHGs," emphasised Marie-Pierre Gramaglia.

It this context, the Mission for Energy Transition brought together more than 200 representatives of the Principality's construction and urban planning professions at Monaco's Vocational and Catering School (Lycée Technique et Hôtelier de Monaco) to present these new standards, the aim of which is to support an approach that can only be changed collectively.

This "tailor-made" sustainable construction approach, based on sharing skills and experience and cross-cutting inter-professional cooperation, has been fully adapted to Monegasque specificities.  A long process of collective intelligence has led to the pooling of Monegasque expertise and ambitions in the field of sustainable construction.  The BD2M could only be created with all the players involved;  it meets users' expectations, since it was defined by and for them.  (See the attached technical data sheet).

Taking into account the State's duty to set an example, the BD2M approach will now be applied to all public construction work, both renovation and new building work.

This topic will be available shortly on our social networks and on Monaco Info.
