Monaco participates in One Planet Summit
At the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, accompanied by a delegation,* took part in the One Planet Summit in Paris on 12 December 2017.
The event, which marked two years to the day since the Paris Agreement was concluded, provided an opportunity to continue this effort by bringing together stakeholders from the worlds of public and private finance. The Summit’s objective was to consider innovative ways to support and accelerate the fight against climate change.
In response to the environmental emergency facing the planet, the French President, the President of the World Bank Group and the Secretary-General of the United Nations gathered together international leaders and committed citizens from around the world.
The event featured more than 50 speakers, including NGOs, entrepreneurs, investors, government officials, local stakeholders and scientists. Taking part in four round tables, they sought to identify and implement concrete solutions, and to mobilise public and private financial resources, including in the most vulnerable countries.
It was in this context that H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince spoke alongside Allen Michael Chastanet, António Guterres, Richard Branson, Frank Bainimarama and Pravind Kumar Jugnautha on the theme Increasing financing for adaptation and resilience. His speech focused primarily on the oceans, marine protected areas, coastal ecosystems, fisheries and protection of the high seas.
