On Friday 25 January, Jean-Luc Biamonti, CEO of the Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), signed the National Energy Transition Pact Commitment Charter. By taking this powerful step the company, which also signed its third Sustainable Development Charter, is pledging to support efforts to achieve a carbon-free Monaco.

The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr Serge Telle, Minister of State, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, Annabelle Jaeger-Seydoux, Director of the Mission for Energy Transition, and their teams.

“Having been actively working towards a more sustainable and responsible luxury experience for a decade, Monte-Carlo SBM is today making this commitment formal. Signing up to this charter is fully in line with the Group’s overall strategy. In 2019, SBM is launching ‘Go Sustainable’, its third Sustainable Development Charter, which includes 30 specific commitments for the period to 2021,” said Jean-Luc Biamonti. “The 3,660 SBM employees are all playing their part in spreading the initiatives and actions that will make this energy transition a success,” added Marie-Pierre Gramaglia. “As a leading economic and social force, not to mention a specifier, buyer, builder and event designer, you have enormous power to pull others along with you. The launch of this third Sustainable Development Charter and your signature, on the same day, of the National Pact send strong signals regarding the commitment of the management and teams at SBM.”

The National Pact, introduced in January 2018, seeks to engage the Monegasque community in efforts to achieve the country’s greenhouse gas emissions targets: a reduction of 50% (compared with 1990 levels) by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince was the first to sign up to the National Pact, followed by his Government. The Pact now has more than 600 signatories.

Individuals can sign up via a simplified digital procedure. See: https://teleservice.gouv.mc/adhesion-pnte/?international=en
